      A 68 year member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church at Wolcottsville and a former Akron resident, William Schalge Sr., died suddenly Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Zelms of Quanah, Tex. He was 93. Born in 1855 in Brandenburg, Germany, Mr. Schalge came to the United States when he was 26 and in 1884 married Minnie Wolter at Wolcottsville where the couple continued to reside for several years during which time Mr. Schalge operated a blacksmith and tool shop. They later moved to Corfu, then to a farm in the Bloomingdale Road, Akron, where they lived until Mr. Schalge's retirement. Mrs. Schalge died in 1938. and seven years ago Mr. Schalge went to Texas to make his home with a daughter. As well as being more than a 60-year member of the Wolcottsville church, Mr. Schalge belonged to the Akron Grange. Surviving besides Mrs. Zelms are three other daughters, Miss Alice Schalge of Quanah, Tex., Mrs. Walter Hellert and Mrs. Earl Tesnow, both of Akron; two sons, Albert and Alvin of Akron; 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. John Wakeman, and a son, William Jr.,preceded him in death. A prayer service was conducted Sunday evening at his late residence in Quanah and the body was shipped to Akron where services will be held at 3:30 tomorrow at the Adrian Bow Funeral Home, John Street. The Rev. Frederick Schleef, pastor of St. Michael's Lutheran Church at Wolcottsville, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.
