  • Notes
    • Pastor Edwin Williams was born the second son of Arthur and Alvina (nee Whittcopp) in Buffalo, NY and was raised in rural western New York near the towns of Sanborn and Lockport. His father farmed in various locations and was employed by Bell Aircraft during WW II and later Nortons in Lockport. Ed was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Walmore, NY and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Lockport. He overcame many obstacles throughout his education. Since Low German was still spoken at home, Ed had to learn English when he started school, and he was the first in his family to graduate for high school. It was while attending Trinity Lutheran School that he first felt the call to become a pastor. He graduated from Lockport High School, from the former Concordia Junior College in Fort Wayne, IN, and from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. He was ordained in Trinity Lutheran Church in 1961. In Ontario, he met his future wife, Carol (nee Hoover). They were married August 13, 1966 after a long-distance courtship between South Dakota and Toronto, Canada. Before cell phones and Skype, the courtship was conducted via written letters. Their daughter Joy, a physician, and her husband, Tim Peterson and grandsons, Matthew and David reside in Ann Arbor, MI. Son, Patrick, a neuroscientist, resides in Allentown, PA. Also surviving are brother, Richard (late Sharon); sisters-in-law, Jeanne (late Roger Williams), Lois (Ross Arnold) and Emma (Mike Depner); brother-in-law, David (Jean) Hoover and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Arthur and Alvina; sister, Kathryn (David Roadhouse and Glenn Klotzbach) and sister-in-law, Jean (Robert Schneider). A Celebration of Life was held on June 30, 2018 in La Vista, NE. Memorials may be made to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 7706 S. 96th St., La Vista, NE 68128.
