- Gustave F. Deutschman, 32, of Bryant St., died in DeGraff Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered Saturday when the fire truck in which he was riding in answer to a call collided with a truck at Goundry and Oliver Sts. He was a member of Columbia Hook and Ladder Company. The truck was badly damaged and never reached the fire which was at the Nelson Battery Shop, 108 Sweeney St. Damage to the shop was slight. This was the third time the truck had been involved in accidents in 15 years. The fatality is the first in the history of the North Side Fire Department.
