      WHEATFIELD - Hilda R. Grawe of Niagara Falls Boulevard died unexpectedly Sunday in DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility, North Tonawanda. She was 84. A Wheatfield native, the former Hilda DeVantier was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she attended Bible class and services and spent time playing cards with the "Rook Gang." She also was a member of St. John's Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild and the Wheatfield Senior Citizens. Her husband, Allan P., died in 1982. She is survived by a son, Daniel of Wheatfield; two daughters, Margaret Failing and Martha Darlak, both of Wheatfield; three brothers, Franklin DeVantier of Arizona and Elton DeVantier and Melvin DeVantier, both of Wheatfield; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Services will be at 2 P.M. today in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls Boulevard and Ward Road. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

      Hilda R. Grawe (DeVantier) age 84 of Niagara Falls Blvd. Wheatfield was called unexpectedly to her heavenly home on Sunday May 16, 2004 while at DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility. Born in the town of Wheatfield, NY on January 6, 1920 to the late Edwin and Lily (Haseley) DeVantier. Wife of the late Allan Grawe who died on August 27, 1982. Hilda was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family, was a faithful member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wheatfield, where she enjoyed attending bible class and services: and spent many happy times playing cards with the “Rock Gang.” She also was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, Alter Guild and Wheatfield Senior Citizens. Survivors include three children: Margaret (Butch) Failing, Martha (Robert) Darlak, and Daniel (Franziska) Grawe all of Wheatfield; ten grandchildren: Lynette, Claudette, Mark, Jeanette, Keri, Keith, Glen, Melissa, Nicole, and Jennifer; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers: Franklin (Ronnie) DeVantier of AZ, Elton (Barbara) DeVantier and Melvin (Gail) DeVantier both of Wheatfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Alice Marzahl. Friends are invited to attend a service on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, corner of Niagara Falls Blvd. and Ward Road. Rev. Ronald Oravec will officiate. Interment in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John Ev. Lutheran Church-hand bells or The Lutheran Hour. There will be no prior visitations. Arrangements are by the DuBois Funeral Home.
