Dorothy J. Wiegand, 94, of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away peacefully December 16, 2008 in Northgate Health Care Facility, after a brief illness. She was born in North Tonawanda, NY on June 24, 1914 to the late Benjamin and Anna (Rathgeber) Schoenfeldt. On June 27, 1936, the former Dorothy J. Schoenfeldt married Joseph H. Wiegand. He died March 10, 1980. For many years Dorothy worked as a sales associate at Jenss Department Store. Mrs. Wiegand was a Charter Member and past President of the Adams Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Niagara County Ladies Auxiliary, the Western New York Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York. She was also a member of the Wheatfield Garden Club, Wheatfield Republican Club and a Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge #263.Dorothy was a lifelong traveler, taking numerous trips to Germany and Austria as well as Norway and Holland. Her other pastimes included fishing, crocheting, working word puzzles and playing cards, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.She is survived by a son, Robert J. (Mary) Wiegand; a granddaughter, Allison Wiegand; one sister, Mildred Krull, all of North Tonawanda and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wiegand was predeceased by her husband; her parents; a daughter, the late Barbara Ann Wiegand; two brothers, the late Robert Schoenfeldt, late Levant Schoenfeldt; and two sisters, the late Lois Erhart and the late Bernice Schoenfeldt. The family will be present to receive friends Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the SPALLINO-AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 1300 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Thomas E. Hardy officiating. Friends invited. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton, NY. If desired, memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Fireman’s Home, 125 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, NY 12534.
