Gardening enthusiast enjoyed bowling, hunting
LEWISTON-John Elnicki, 71, of Edna Drive, died Monday (May 15, 1995) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, after a three-month illness. He was born in DuBois, Pa., on April 30, 1924, the son of Michael and Theresa (Prochko) Elnicki. In 1941, he moved to Niagara Falls. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, and was wounded in Normandy. He received the Purple Heart. Mr. Elnicki was employed by the Carborundum Co. as a lathe operator. He retired in 1983. He enjoyed golf, bowling, hunting and gardening. He was a member of St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Elnicki is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret (Masceri) Elnicki of Lewiston; a son, John Jeffrey Elnicki of Sanborn; four brothers, Nicholas Elnicki, Joseph Elnicki and Andrew Elnicki, all of DuBois, and Paul Elnicki of Niagara Falls; three sisters, Anne Zedick of DuBois, Olga Brown of Greenville, S.C., and Nettie Muscato of Duarte, Calif.; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Williams. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Otto Redanz Funeral Home, LaSalle Park Chapel, 2215 Military Road, where services will be conducted at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9: 15 a.m. in St. Leo's Church on Military Road. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.
