History of St John's Lutheran Church, Gasline Ontario
History of St John's Lutheran Church, Gasline Ontario
St John's was started by the Buffalo Synod in 1840 and was served by Heinrich von Rohr after his graduation from Martin Luther Seminary. The congregation help found the sister congregation of St. Peter’s in nearby Stonebridge. St. John’s became a Missouri Synod church shortly after the split within the Buffalo Synod whereas St. Peter’s stayed with Heinrich von Rohr’s small group of ex-Buffalo Synod congregation. St. Peter’s became part of Missouri Synod in 1875 after von Rohr’s death. A small group of dissatisfied members of St. John’s formed a small congregation that was probably associated with von Rohr’s splinter group.
